Hello All

In the time leading up to Mothering Sunday I think of my Mama who was a wonderful craftswomen.  She passed away in 2011 but she is very much with me.  It was she who introduced me to arts and crafts.  I was lucky enough to grow up in a time where the television and screens were not running all the time.  Instead I read, I drew, I cut, I created.  I passed the same skills onto my own children but my craftsmanship has taken on a new level in the last 5 years.  Crafting allows me to escape from the outside world and be restful.  Crafting also links me back to my Mama – who would have loved to see that all those skills she passed onto me are still going strong.

Craftwork cards brought out a delightful set of papers recently (Sew Lovely) and a different size card blank 6″ x 4″ with plain white overlays.  As Julie Hickey would say this gives you the chance to “embrace the space”.

I adapted these cards to make a range of cards that would be suitable for mums but also the other special ladies in your life.  I tried to use different colours to appeal to all tastes. I won’t tell you which ones are my favourites.

The blues, greens and yellows remind me of Spring with their fresh colours.  The overlays are stamped, outlined with pens and have pearl drops added.  My favourite little flower punch came in handy for the embellishments and the ribbons just add the finishing touch.

The brilliant Julie Loves stamps included a bold ‘you’ which allows you to create your own focal point.  I embossed these with jet black powder.  The card on the right was then highlighted with a watercolour pen in powder blue.

Lastly the pinks and lilac are a bit funky.  I found the peacock feather pattern in a Craftwork Card set ‘Pretty in Pink’.  The lilac ribbon was given a lift with a piece of polka dot washi tape and who would have thought that brown and pink would have worked so well together.  I couldnt quite believe how popular these cards were so I will have to re-create this style again.

I delved back into my paper stash to create these 6″ x 6″ cards and used the fab Chalkboard papers.  I wanted to pick out the colours on the background so I deliberately added touches of pink, blue and yellow.  I also drew the outlines on the overlays and also the middle of the flowers just to pull the whole style together.  I didn’t really embrace the space with these two cards but I still like them.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these cards and I also hope you take great care of those amazing women in your lives  Happy Mothers Day.

Much love
