Now onto the cards and projects. These have all been made with the glorious new papers and washi from Lisa Horton Crafts

Christmas Romance

This is a simple snowflake card made with a section of the papers from Christmas Romance. The patterning perfectly matches the previously released snowflake dies.

Washi Heart

The washi roll makes creating personal Christmas gifts easy. Here I used the Christmas Romance washi to cover a simple heart. The floral toppers were also taken from the washi and backed onto gold card to create a warm background. Then I created a matching gift box decorated with the papers.

Washi Poinsettia

This card topper is taken from the washi once again. This time I backed it onto white card before mounting it within the red frame – die cut using the Nested Stitched Bubble Squares.

Kraft Poinsettia

This card brings together elements from previous releases which is one of the reasons I love using Lisa Horton Crafts products. The poinsettia paper on this card is a particular favourite of mine. I teamed it up with kraft card and Euphoria Glitter cardstock. Then created a matching Poinsettia from kraft card before finishing it off with an Epoxy Dome.

Gift set

This is a really inexpensive gift set. Take an easy to find shopping list pad and measure the front cover. Cut a piece of cardstock (bear in mind that the colour changes the effect of the washi). Cover the cardstock with a piece of the washi and stick to the front cover. Do the same for the matching gift box and finish it off by wrapping a piece of washi around a pencil.

MAKE IT A EUPHORIA CHRISTMAS

Hello again

I am going to be sharing a few Christmas card ideas with you today. The shopping list for all of the products will be at the end of the blog.

Firstly, let me show you a few cards made for Lisa Horton Crafts shows on the 11th August 2021 on Create and Craft TV. The main feature was Boxset Number 2 however a particular DL stamp caused quite a stir too.

So Festive – Blue

“So Festive” is a slimline stamp with seasonal wording. I used it with Tim Holtz Distress embossing glaze in Speckled Egg.

I then layered up the embossed page using the Festive Check Slimline die set – which is another must have for 2021 Christmas cards.

So Festive – Lime Green

Here are the same products used with a Lime Green embossing powder. I think it makes a funky card suitable for a younger person.

So Festive – Pastel

This time I used white embossing powder with the So Festive stamp. I left it to cool down before adding Distress Oxides in various shades with blending brushes. To create a clean look, take a soft cloth and buff up the letters which cleans the inks away.

Sketchy Poinsettia

Also featured on the show were the Sketchy Poinsettia stamps and dies. Here I teamed them up with Rose Gold Mirri Card but can you imagine trying this style with the brand new Euphoria Sparkling Glitter card stock?

The next set of cards will feature in the Create and Craft shows on Friday 27th August at 12.45pm and Saturday 28th August at 9am/12.45pm/5.15pm (UK time)

Baby It’s Cold Outside

The Large Snowflake dies are exactly that – LARGE! The largest die measures 145mmx130mm. Team them up with the new Euphoria Premium Glitter cardstock and you have a match made in crafting heaven !

To make this diamond fold card I embossed square panels using the Slimline 3d Snowflake Embossing Folder, I cut the snowflakes out in shades of pink, blue card plus silver, white glitter card stock. Then i layered them up in different combinations.

Joy

This card is made with square panel front of embossed vellum (using the same folder as above).

Then I layered up various shades and sizes of snowflakes onto the vellum. To give the card stability I adhered it to a plain white card blank.

Warm WInter Wishes

The snowflake on this card was made with the “waste” from the other cards. Keep every scrap of the precious glitter card stock because you will use it.

I created another embossed panel using the So Festive stamps which goes to show how everything in the Lisa Horton Crafts range works together.

The sentiment is taken from the Snowflakes Sentiments stamp and die set.

Season’s Greetings

This card features the equally stunning Large Poinsettia die set. It is easy to create realistic flowers that layer up to form beautiful flowers – not just poinsettias. Here I have added gold gilding wax to red American Crafts Cardstock.

50th Birthday

These dies are not specifically for Christmas. Change the colour way and the sentiment and you have a glamorous card for a special occasion.

Believe in the Magic

The final die set to talk about is the Nested Stitched Bubble Squares. It is a perfect set to build up the frames and layers of your 8×8 / 6×6/4×4 cards because you have the bubble frames plus the double layers of mats.

On this card I die cut a mat from the Euphoria Glitter card. Then embossed it. It made a beautiful backdrop to the white glitter Poinsettia.

Joy and Peace

Last but not least I die cut the largest bubble frame and added it (with two co-ordinating layers) to a 8×8 black card blank.

Then I created a matching snowflake and added a snowflake sentiment to the smallest of the bubble frames.

In my personal opinion, this range of dies, stamps, glitter card-stock and embellishments pretty much covers Christmas card-making 2021.

CUTE CUTZ ON THE FARM – SHELDON THE SHEEP

Hello again

I have had such crafting fun with the new Cute Cutz range from Lisa Horton Crafts. I was lucky enough to be sent Sheldon the Sheep and here are a few of the cards I made for the shows on Create and Craft which air on

Monday 5th July at 10.30pm on Create and Craft USA

Tuesday 6th July at 6pm on Create and Craft UK

Wednesday 7th July at 7.30am/8.15am/3pm/8.15pm on Create and Craft UK

Howzat

First up, I made Sheldon a jumper using the Knitted 3D Embossing Folder. There are two layers for the body so I embossed them both. Then I decided to turn him into a cricketer so I turned his mop of hair into a quiff and gave him an eye by cutting into the die that also forms the inner ear. I die cut his legs twice and cut away the back legs from the first set. Next I cut all four legs on the second set and chose the best fit for the arms. His muzzle area was placed on the angle and a cricket ball was cut from red card with white lines added on the seams.

“I wool always love ewe”

This is how my crafting brain works. I spotted this sentiment in the Farmyard Sentiments Stamps. This set me off singing the song made famous by Whitney Houston which then made me think of Diva’s. This led me to remembering The Three Degrees. Each of these lovely lambs has a face and a character of their own. Simply move the eyes around or try different shapes and colours to change the look.

Little Bo Sheep

In another play on words, I remembered Little Bo Peep from the classic Nursery Rhyme. To turn this sheep into a little lady I gave her a floral embossed dress complete with a lacy petticoat and a bow for her wool. I angled her head on the side to make it look like she was waiting in the field and placed her on a circular easel card complete with Petite Petal flowers ( which will also be in the same show)

Rudolph the Red Nose ReinSheep

Once again, this idea came randomly. I cut out the trees from the Set the Scene – Greenery dies and thought to myself. “These look like antlers”. Next, I die cut the base elements in dark brown and completed the look with a bright red nose. I finished off the card by embossing a white background with the stunning Slimline Mistletoe 3D Embossing Folder and added a matching bough of leaves. The sentiment is rather apt too !

This is a really humorous and creative set of dies to work with. You can bring them to life by imagining what you want them to be and making it happen by changing the colour of the card stock, adding different elements or moving the position of the eyes.

CHRISTMAS IN JUNE

Hello again,

Today sees the launch of Christmas crafting on Create and Craft TV which to non crafters seems complete nonsense but those in the know realise that it takes time to create personal, handmade cards. We need the tools so that we can start Christmas 2021!

The first range that I have had the pleasure of working with are the fabulous Slimline 3D Embossing Folders from Lisa Horton Crafts.

SLIMLINE CHRISTMAS ROSE 3D FOLDER – https://tidd.ly/3coZcRc

FULL COLLECTION OF FESTIVE 3D EMBOSSING FOLDERS WITH CHRISTMAS ROSE STAMPS – https://tidd.ly/2SgEoVl

These samples were made for the launch show on Create and Craft on Monday 7th June at 6pm. If there is stock available two more shows will air on Tuesday 8th June at 11.15am and 4.30pm.

Holly and Berries

This is the simplest of cards and sometimes simple works best – particularly when batch making cards for Christmas. Here I have teamed up a silver glitter card frame (using LHC Rectangle Scalloped and Nested Dies) with a white embossed panel (using the Holly and Berries Slimline Embossing Folder).

Traditional

Here the same embossing folder has been used with a slimline panel and a frame from the Festive Check Frame Die. More on that further down this post. The traditional green really enhances the holly and berries embossing and I highlighted various areas with a touch of gold gilding wax.

Emboss – Deboss

These mini slimline cards may work as a pair but look closely and you will see that the gold version is embossed and the rose gold version is de-bossed. De-bossing the mirri card means that you can add a Nuvo red drop inside the hollow of the berry. Leave plenty of time for it to dry though!

Banner Christmas Tree

The embossing folder has been used again. Firstly with a green triangle (another set of LHC Nested shaped dies) and a 6×6 panel for the base of the card. Simply place the folder side by side to emboss.

The banners have been placed in descending order of size from the bottom to the the top and the tree is finished off with a gold glitter card star.

Festive Banners

All today’s cards include a Festive Banner sentiment which are taken from the must have Festive Banner Stamp and Die set. Yes it is one stamp and one die making twelve sentiments at once! The stamp set works best in a stamping platform. I used WoW embossing ink and powder to heat emboss several sets at once. This type of crafting shortcut is just what is needed when batch making cards for Christmas.

FESTIVE BANNERS STAMP AND DIE – https://tidd.ly/3wZB7Z3

Warm Winter Wishes

In my opinion the Festive Check Frame die is a must have for this Christmas card season. For this card the check has been cut in two shades of green which have been offset to create a tartan effect.

FESTIVE SLIMLINE CHECKED FRAME DIE – https://tidd.ly/3w2whKE

Fa la la la

Another pattern can be created by layering a red check panel on top of a white glitter card rectangle. Then paper piecing the red squares back in alongside the green squares from the check panel I used in the card above.

The bows are also in this versatile die set and make the perfect topper within the square.

Festive Hugs

The pink and blue may be non traditional colours for Christmas but add a touch of sparkle with silver glitter card. By mixing up the colours and paper piecing different parts you can create different designs. Also included in this design are the sweet Hearts of Happiness which add to the younger vibe of this card.

From Our House to Yours

This is a great sentiment to include because it doesn’t need to be for Christmas. This card is made up of combination of all the cards above because I used “the waste” from the other die cuts. Of all the check designs this one reminds me the most of tartan.

Just to prove a prove a point on how quickly you can make Christmas cards with these versatile products. I created all of these cards from scratch in under a day. If you batch make the Banner Sentiments, emboss panels with the Slimline 3D Folders and die cut the Festive Check Frame in different colours – you could make all of your Christmas cards in a few days and have the rest of the year off !

Until next time

Mini Slimline cards from Lisa Horton Crafts

Hello again.

The great ideas keep on coming from Lisa Horton Crafts. The slimline cutting dies were a big hit last year and now we have brand new slimline minis. This range launches on Create and Craft on Wednesday 19th May with an Early Bird Show at 6pm followed by Pick of the Day shows on Thursday 20th May at 7.30am/8.15am/3pm/8.15pm

Beautiful Buds

I am a big fan of products that will mix and match. Here the yellow frame is cut from the outer edge of the Decreasing Stripes. I matched this with the Duo Backgrounds – Stitched Circles (seen in a previous post – https://elisabethhogarth.wordpress.com/2021/05/03/pick-of-the-week-from-lisa-horton-crafts/

Then I die cut and layered up the Beautiful Buds in yellows and white.

Decreasing Stripes

Here I have used the all the dies within the Decreasing Stripes alongside the useful Vertical Stamps and Coordinating Dies. I created a stripes frame to lay over a white mat and placed them in a stamping platform. The frame acted as a mask to fit the vertical words in between. I stamped them in black then moved the mat along in between the next line and stamped the words again in pink. When you pull the tab you can see all the words.

Swirling Daisy

Just because these dies are made as mini slimlines it doesn’t mean they can’t be used in other ways. By lining the die up repeatedly I created a square pattern. On this card I die cut into the card base then added the green cardstock directly behind it. To hide the join I added a Squiggled Script sentiment.

Bright and Bold Daisy

On this card I used the Swirling Daisy panel as a frame to paper piece into. Not once but four times. This is a large 8×8 card and by using bright colours you can really make the most of the black frame. I finished it off with matching vertical sentiments.

https://www.scrapbook.com/gallery/project/6734255

Slimline Swirling Daisy

The same technique was used as in the Happy card above but this time I matched the die up vertically. Be bold with your colour choices and the design will really pop!

Paper Hugs Envelope

If your budget can stretch to this brilliant die set then I would say go for it. It allows you to create matching DL envelopes for your cards and you can cut them down for the mini slimline cards. There are main frames, side panels and matting dies along with adorable embellishments including a mini envelope, a heart, a star and a button plus the Paper Hugs words.

Mini Album

I didn’t just make matching envelopes with the versatile Slimline Multi Envelope dies. Here I have made a mini album using the outside panel, scoring the pages at intervals then adding the top flap panel on each side edge. The hole for the ribbon was cut using the small button die.

Hugs

To make pockets for mini cards use the scalloped edge within the die set. These corner pockets were decorated with the sweet mini envelopes.

Daisy Pockets

Another idea for a pocket is to die cut a panel using the Swirling Daisy and line it with a piece of vellum.

You can probably tell that this little album became a labour of love. I could have spent more time on it but I had one more project that I wanted to complete.

Miss P ?

This little kitten isn’t quite the same as Lisa Horton’s cat Prudence but it is still a beautiful image for this slimline album. Yes. I made another album because these dies are a little bit addictive! The papers are taken from a Ciao Bella paper collection and I will leave an Amazon link below.

The pages were made using the main panel and the side flap panel. I made a spine by cutting an additional panel and scoring it at 1.5cm intervals.

The last panel on the album was folded and scored and lined up with the front of the album to create a box like effect.

Bella

By folding the side panel back on itself I created a pocket for each page. The scalloped die came in very handy once again. Additional tags were made with the smaller stitched edge panel.

Bellissimo

In addition each page was decorated with an illustrated small stitched panel that was layered up onto coloured card stock and cut from the larger stitched panel. I snuck in a few sentiments too.

I am working on a video to show this process in more detail so keep an eye on my YouTube Channel.

As you can see from the samples above – these dies may be called mini slimline dies but you can do so much more with them. Yes they are an investment however they are incredibly versatile and stylish too.

Enjoy Lisa Horton’s shows on the 19th and 20th May and please do share your makes in the Facebook group Crafting with Lisa Horton – https://www.facebook.com/groups/468312444069507

I would also appreciate it if you would leave a comment below to let me know what you think of the products that I have shown in this blog. Thank you.

Pick of the Week from Lisa Horton Crafts

Hello again

It is another exciting milestone for Lisa Horton Crafts because she is launching her first Pick of the Week on Create and Craft TV today.

Showtimes are – Monday 3rd May at 8.15am/9am and 3.45pm. Tuesday 4th May at 11.15am and Thursday 6th May at 5.15pm but I have a feeling that the stock won’t last long.

The Pick of the Week is centred around the Duo Stitched Die Collection https://tidd.ly/3vrZZYQ so I will begin by sharing a few samples I made with the Circle set

Birthday Wishes

The topper of this card is made with both of the dies in the Duo Background Circles. I slightly offset the open circles over the top of the stitched circles to create a 70’s styled effect. By using different colours for each layer you can create 3D patterns.

It is also worth mentioning the stylish Build a Sentiment stamp and die set too because it works with everything in the Lisa Horton Crafts range https://tidd.ly/32ZVt7J

Connect 4

This was an idea I had at 3am one night/morning. I must have been dreaming about craft :).

To make the card – die cut the open circle die in royal blue, bright yellow and post box red. I cut the blue frame twice for added dimension. Use the “waste” circles of the red and yellow to make the discs. I played the game to make the card look realistic.

1.2.3

This card was made with the yellow and red die cuts from above. This time I moved the red circles so they sat halfway between the yellow to create a different pattern again.

The Large Stitched Numbers are an absolute bonus to all your projects and they also match up with the previously released Stitched Alphabet.

https://tidd.ly/3304Jst

Stitched Circles Background

The next two cards feature the Stitched Circles Background and again these can be used in various ways. To create this card I inked up several pieces of card using Oxide ink colours. These were then die cut using the diagonal pattern plate along with several white pieces of card. The white frames were stuck together to build a sturdy frame and the coloured pieces were then paper pieced back in. The Hugs sentiment was stamped with black Versafine Clair and heat embossed with clear powder before being placed on to inked and die cut circle bases.

Happy in Grey and Yellow

The same techniques were used as above but this time in yellow / grey papers and white glitter card.

The card was finished by stamping the glorious large Peony stamp onto matching yellow cardstock and lightly colouring areas with pens and pencils.

Fabulous Fifty

The last die set is the classy Quilted Stitched Frame which I think has an art deco feel about it. Firstly I used the large frame to cut into the card black before adding fuchsia pink glitter card stock behind and a matching panel to the centre. The numbers came in handy again and to keep the glamour going I heat embossed ‘fabulous” with rich blue embossing powder.

Labour of Love

I channelled my inner Rennie Mackintosh for this card. It took me ages to create because every small part of “You Inspire Me” was paper pieced back in. The frame was cut in dark blue three times to create the depth and green to paper piece the inner frame. The sentiment was cut in peacock blue, purple and hot pink. To neaten the look I added an additional blue frame over the top of the paper pieced elements. Trust me – it was a real labour of love.

The Pick of the Week is on Create and Craft w/c 3rd May. There are due to be 5 separate shows but somehow I think there will be an early sell out again.

Cherry Blossom Floral Edgecutz Stamps and Dies

“And so the spring buds burst, and so I gaze,
And so the blossoms fall, and so my days”

…Uejima Onitsura

Hello again

Cherry Blossoms really do herald the start of Spring. Usually they burst into life around Easter time and my sister’s birthday. They remind us of lighter evenings and brighter days ahead. What a joy it was for me to create with the new Edgecutz stamps and dies from Lisa Horton Crafts. Here are my Cherry Blossom cards in all their springtime glory….

White Embossed

I began by heat embossing the beautiful focal stamp and cutting out the complete image. To colour – I laid down a pale pink base using Koh-i-Noor Polycolour Pencils and blending the colour out. Then I added Zig Waterbrush Pinks to my Mixed Media Mat and applied to the centre of the blooms with a waterbrush pen. Finally I added a pale grey shadow to one side of the branch and laid the finished piece onto a light grey stencilled background.

Pink Smudges of Ink

This time I used pink embossing powder to heat emboss the image. Then I used brown and green pencils to define the branches and the leaves. I found it easier to work this way round.

To colour the blossoms I used a small finger dauber and gently added a circle of Kitsch Flamingo Oxide Ink directly to the centre. The blooms were laid onto an In the Garden 3D Embossed piece of pink cardstock.

Here is where the Edgecutz die comes into it.

Not only can you cut around the entire Cherry blossom branch you can use one of the edges to cut away an outline or use to layer up the card. The pale pink background has been created using the Alstroemeria 3D Embossing Folder.

This time I coloured the blossoms with two shades of pink Zig watercolour inks. They were a bit too strong so I toned down the colour with a white gel pen before defining the stamens with Yellow Tonic Nuvo Drops.

Blue

Cherry Blossoms can take on another look when you use other colours. I defined the branches and the leaves as above. Then added colour using a weak solution of oxide ink and water with my brush. When the blooms had completely dried I added another layer of colour with the Koh-i-Noor Polycolour pencils. Each branch was laid upon a Honeycombe Slimline Frame over an embossed In the Garden card which had also been coloured.

Just one blossom

Along with the main stamp and die there is a single blossom and die. To make a clean and simple card. Stamp and die three blooms in black ink. Then colour the centre with a wisp of apricot. Then layer up onto a plain circular frame.

Did you notice that several of these cards had more than my traditional three sequins? I felt the pretty designs warranted it. This pretty set launches on Create and Craft on Friday 23rd April at 9am and 3.45pm. After two weeks exclusivity you will be able to buy it directly from Lisa Horton Crafts at That Craft Place.

Large Petal Edgecutz

Hello again,

When is an Edgecutz not just an Edging Die? When it is a Lisa Horton Edgecutz Die!

This great new set of dies launch on Friday 2nd April on Create and Craft TV. I was lucky to be able to play with the Large Petal set and you will also find three more in this range called : Floral Posy, Just for You and Happy Birthday.

The beauty of these dies is the ability to be able to cut into your card, cut a shape away from your card, cut the main die entirely and use the smaller elements independently.

In my first example I have used the outer edge dies to create a golden layer for the floral arrangement to sit on. The I cut two layers of navy flowers to add dimension to the focal point. I incorporated the brilliant Honeycombe slimline and the Banner Sentiments I love how everything mixes and matches.

This time, I used the main floral die and cut into the slimline base card. Again, I cut two layers of pale blue flowers to lift up the main element. Then I cut a flowery panel to lay behind the card and neaten up the inside of the card. I hope you can see from the photo – the sentiments have two shades of blue ink rather like an ombre effect. I sneaked my trademark three sequins in too !

To “edge” this card I used one side of the outer dies across the diagonal of a 6×6 card. To finish the ends I traced around the curve using a pencil and carefully cut away using scissors. Next, using yellow card. I cut two layers of the main floral die and laid them carefully across the die cut edge. To add interest to the inlaid parts I die cut the main floral die again in another shade of yellow and two shades of green. I then added removable tape to the back to keep the “bits” in place until I decided which colours to use. Lisa’s sharp tweezers came in very handy for this task. To complete the inside of the card I used the 3D embossing folder “Budding Bloom” because it has a similar flow to it. The white embossed card was then layered up onto a piece of matching yellow card. To finish the card I added one of the must have Banner sentiments and a three blue sequins. The reason why I added blue is because it is the opposite colour to yellow on the colour wheel.

My final card proves that you can cut into the card again using the outer Edge die. Begin by opening up the card base (this is a 5×7″ and line up the tips of the die along the fold – ensuring you leave a space either side for the shape to sit into. I cut two layers of the floral die in orange and stuck them together on to the outline share before adding a funky blue and orange flower using the smaller dies. To bring the design together I used the Banner sentiments with various shades of orange, blue and green. Then I embossed a black piece of black card on a slimline panel with the Layered Petals 3D Embossing Folder from Lisa Horton Crafts.

As I mentioned at the start, this collection launches on Create and Craft initially and judging by Lisa Horton Crafts other products this will be a quick sellout.

After fourteen days exclusivity you will be able to buy these dies and many of the other products mentioned directly from Lisa Horton Crafts on their website – That Craft Place. https://thatcraftplace.co.uk/
