Mini Slimline cards from Lisa Horton Crafts

Hello again.

The great ideas keep on coming from Lisa Horton Crafts. The slimline cutting dies were a big hit last year and now we have brand new slimline minis. This range launches on Create and Craft on Wednesday 19th May with an Early Bird Show at 6pm followed by Pick of the Day shows on Thursday 20th May at 7.30am/8.15am/3pm/8.15pm

Beautiful Buds

I am a big fan of products that will mix and match. Here the yellow frame is cut from the outer edge of the Decreasing Stripes. I matched this with the Duo Backgrounds – Stitched Circles (seen in a previous post – https://elisabethhogarth.wordpress.com/2021/05/03/pick-of-the-week-from-lisa-horton-crafts/

Then I die cut and layered up the Beautiful Buds in yellows and white.

Decreasing Stripes

Here I have used the all the dies within the Decreasing Stripes alongside the useful Vertical Stamps and Coordinating Dies. I created a stripes frame to lay over a white mat and placed them in a stamping platform. The frame acted as a mask to fit the vertical words in between. I stamped them in black then moved the mat along in between the next line and stamped the words again in pink. When you pull the tab you can see all the words.

Swirling Daisy

Just because these dies are made as mini slimlines it doesn’t mean they can’t be used in other ways. By lining the die up repeatedly I created a square pattern. On this card I die cut into the card base then added the green cardstock directly behind it. To hide the join I added a Squiggled Script sentiment.

Bright and Bold Daisy

On this card I used the Swirling Daisy panel as a frame to paper piece into. Not once but four times. This is a large 8×8 card and by using bright colours you can really make the most of the black frame. I finished it off with matching vertical sentiments.

Slimline Swirling Daisy

The same technique was used as in the Happy card above but this time I matched the die up vertically. Be bold with your colour choices and the design will really pop!

Paper Hugs Envelope

If your budget can stretch to this brilliant die set then I would say go for it. It allows you to create matching DL envelopes for your cards and you can cut them down for the mini slimline cards. There are main frames, side panels and matting dies along with adorable embellishments including a mini envelope, a heart, a star and a button plus the Paper Hugs words.

Mini Album

I didn’t just make matching envelopes with the versatile Slimline Multi Envelope dies. Here I have made a mini album using the outside panel, scoring the pages at intervals then adding the top flap panel on each side edge. The hole for the ribbon was cut using the small button die.

Hugs

To make pockets for mini cards use the scalloped edge within the die set. These corner pockets were decorated with the sweet mini envelopes.

Daisy Pockets

Another idea for a pocket is to die cut a panel using the Swirling Daisy and line it with a piece of vellum.

You can probably tell that this little album became a labour of love. I could have spent more time on it but I had one more project that I wanted to complete.

Miss P ?

This little kitten isn’t quite the same as Lisa Horton’s cat Prudence but it is still a beautiful image for this slimline album. Yes. I made another album because these dies are a little bit addictive! The papers are taken from a Ciao Bella paper collection and I will leave an Amazon link below.

The pages were made using the main panel and the side flap panel. I made a spine by cutting an additional panel and scoring it at 1.5cm intervals.

The last panel on the album was folded and scored and lined up with the front of the album to create a box like effect.

Bella

By folding the side panel back on itself I created a pocket for each page. The scalloped die came in very handy once again. Additional tags were made with the smaller stitched edge panel.

Bellissimo

In addition each page was decorated with an illustrated small stitched panel that was layered up onto coloured card stock and cut from the larger stitched panel. I snuck in a few sentiments too.

I am working on a video to show this process in more detail so keep an eye on my YouTube Channel.

As you can see from the samples above – these dies may be called mini slimline dies but you can do so much more with them. Yes they are an investment however they are incredibly versatile and stylish too.

Enjoy Lisa Horton’s shows on the 19th and 20th May and please do share your makes in the Facebook group Crafting with Lisa Horton – https://www.facebook.com/groups/468312444069507

I would also appreciate it if you would leave a comment below to let me know what you think of the products that I have shown in this blog. Thank you.

Until next time

SECRET GARDEN FROM CRAFT CONSORTIUM

Hello again.

Last year I was writing about the Circus collection which had been illustrated by the talented Clare Therese Gray in collaboration with Craft Consortium Ltd. Well. The team at CC H have done it again! This time the collection is called Secret Garden and is very reminiscent of the classic children’s story by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

SECRET GARDEN COMPLETE COLLECTION – https://tidd.ly/3f97PjG

The Inspiration..

I have followed Clare Therese on Instagram for some time. When she announced this collection on her account she explained that Secret Garden was very close to her heart and was dedicated to her god-daughter Eliza.

When I am creating samples for the launch shows on Create and Craft I like to imagine who would be using the papers, stamps and embellishments and how they would use them.

❤️

This little project became Eliza’s colouring card box. The images were stamped onto plain card stock and mounted onto the pretty 6 x 6 papers. Washi tape was added to the envelopes to match too. The set of mini pencils were given the washi tape treatment too and set onto a matching piece of card. I have shared the making of these wallets before on my YouTube Channel and you can easily adapt the size –

Paper Pieced – Labour of Love

The design of this 6×6 page reminded me of a formal garden layout which in turn reminded me of the A5 Iron Frame cutting die from Craft Consortium’s range Dienamix https://tidd.ly/3faTljg.

The central die was cut several times from various shades of green, grey and peach and then the “waste” was paper pieced back into the frame. To make the outside edge I drew around the die itself because this made a good mm edge.

Same but different….

This is the same design but this time it is the 12×12 page. I wanted to share how well Craft Consortium scale the papers and how different the sizes can look.

This time I wanted to create a formal hedging border which is why I used a vibrant green with the rectangular outside edge of the A5 Iron Frame https://tidd.ly/3faTljg The opposite colour to green on the colour wheel is red which is why it makes a good contrast.

Great addition to the range….

Before I go any further, I must mention the puffy stickers within this range. I love them! They make really great toppers alongside the wooden ones and the price point is very reasonable for the amount you get and the quality of them.

I have mentioned this before in my blog but a good starting point to enhancing your cards is to match the colours of the paper design. Here I used teal and burnt orange card stock to mirror the pretty florals. Again they are opposites on the colour wheel but they work well together.

Simple, slimline….

Cards don’t have to be complicated to be pretty and worthy of sending.

Live, laugh love

I will end with this z-fold style card which is essentially two cards in one. This card make is on my to do list for video tutorials so subscribe to my channel and hit the alert bell for an update on this card style.

I know this colour theme won’t be to everyones taste but the peach in the background papers popped out to me which is why I teamed it with peach cardstock and one of my favourite Dienamix word dies https://tidd.ly/3eFnxDV

To hold the smaller card in place on the mountain fold I added smaller mini pads halfway on the back of the central wooden topper and set the smaller puffy stickers on the line where the card stopped. Pretty and useful 😉

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my thought process when making these cards. Secret Garden is a very pretty collection which can be used in a variety of ways particularly if you are able to stretch to buying both sets of paper pads.

This collection is now available to pre-order from Craft Stash so I have included affiliate links below. These help me to keep creating free content and you will incur no additional costs. I am lucky to be on the Craft Consortium design team and receive free products from them. I would never recommend any product that I have not personally tried and am happy with.

Pick of the Week from Lisa Horton Crafts

Hello again

It is another exciting milestone for Lisa Horton Crafts because she is launching her first Pick of the Week on Create and Craft TV today.

Showtimes are – Monday 3rd May at 8.15am/9am and 3.45pm. Tuesday 4th May at 11.15am and Thursday 6th May at 5.15pm but I have a feeling that the stock won’t last long.

The Pick of the Week is centred around the Duo Stitched Die Collection https://tidd.ly/3vrZZYQ so I will begin by sharing a few samples I made with the Circle set

Birthday Wishes

The topper of this card is made with both of the dies in the Duo Background Circles. I slightly offset the open circles over the top of the stitched circles to create a 70’s styled effect. By using different colours for each layer you can create 3D patterns.

It is also worth mentioning the stylish Build a Sentiment stamp and die set too because it works with everything in the Lisa Horton Crafts range https://tidd.ly/32ZVt7J

Connect 4

This was an idea I had at 3am one night/morning. I must have been dreaming about craft :).

To make the card – die cut the open circle die in royal blue, bright yellow and post box red. I cut the blue frame twice for added dimension. Use the “waste” circles of the red and yellow to make the discs. I played the game to make the card look realistic.

1.2.3

This card was made with the yellow and red die cuts from above. This time I moved the red circles so they sat halfway between the yellow to create a different pattern again.

The Large Stitched Numbers are an absolute bonus to all your projects and they also match up with the previously released Stitched Alphabet.

https://tidd.ly/3304Jst

Stitched Circles Background

The next two cards feature the Stitched Circles Background and again these can be used in various ways. To create this card I inked up several pieces of card using Oxide ink colours. These were then die cut using the diagonal pattern plate along with several white pieces of card. The white frames were stuck together to build a sturdy frame and the coloured pieces were then paper pieced back in. The Hugs sentiment was stamped with black Versafine Clair and heat embossed with clear powder before being placed on to inked and die cut circle bases.

Happy in Grey and Yellow

The same techniques were used as above but this time in yellow / grey papers and white glitter card.

The card was finished by stamping the glorious large Peony stamp onto matching yellow cardstock and lightly colouring areas with pens and pencils.

Fabulous Fifty

The last die set is the classy Quilted Stitched Frame which I think has an art deco feel about it. Firstly I used the large frame to cut into the card black before adding fuchsia pink glitter card stock behind and a matching panel to the centre. The numbers came in handy again and to keep the glamour going I heat embossed ‘fabulous” with rich blue embossing powder.

Labour of Love

I channelled my inner Rennie Mackintosh for this card. It took me ages to create because every small part of “You Inspire Me” was paper pieced back in. The frame was cut in dark blue three times to create the depth and green to paper piece the inner frame. The sentiment was cut in peacock blue, purple and hot pink. To neaten the look I added an additional blue frame over the top of the paper pieced elements. Trust me – it was a real labour of love.

The Pick of the Week is on Create and Craft w/c 3rd May. There are due to be 5 separate shows but somehow I think there will be an early sell out again.

Cafe Society from Kanban Crafts

Hello again,

Kanban Crafts have taken Strawberry Moon under their umbrella and the cards I am sharing today were made for the launch of the new collection – Cafe Society on Monday 3rd May at 2.15pm and 7.30pm

This pretty pink and pale green collection includes 12×12 papers, 6×6 papers, postcards, sentiments, vellums plus white and silver embossed card stock.

Cafe Society Complete Collection.  https://tidd.ly/3ecew57

12 x 12 papers  https://tidd.ly/3tg6r3A

6 x 6 papers https://tidd.ly/3nGGJUJ

A5 white foiled vellum https://tidd.ly/33b5rmR

The kit includes 12×12 papers, 6×6 papers, postcards, sentiments, vellum and embossed white and mirri A4 backgrounds.

To make this easel card I layered one of the postcards onto the 6×6 papers and knocked back the colour by adding a sheet of vellum.

This is an 8×8 card. The background is from the 12×12 paper pad and the pink diamond designed paper is from the 6×6 papers. There are enough postcards to cut out and layer up which adds dimension to the images.

This is my favourite card because I like the idea of baking and eating this cake! It may look like a clean and simple design however there are four mats – a silver, a plain pink cardstock, the 6×6 paper and finally a partial layer of vellum. The sentiment has been backed in silver to match. When I cut out the cakes from the postcards I cut one out in full and set that on the card. I cut away more on the top one so that the base could be seen thus creating the dimension.

If you would like to see more about this collection and the cards and scrapbook layouts I made for the launch shows in early April then follow the link to my YouTube Channel.

Until next time
